TRANSFORMING ONBOARDING WITH THE DISCOVERY MAP®
Knights Brown is a privately owned, independent, regional construction business with specialist energy sector capability delivered nationwide and in the Republic of Ireland. Knights Brown’s strategy is built around their people. They don’t have aspirations to become a billion dollar company with thousands of employees. They want to grow to fund the aspirations of their people.
They also play an important part in finding talent to develop. The work Knights Brown carries out involve communities around the globe. They are helping communities with construction support. They are building facilities to help lay foundations for long term infrastructure development. There’s lots to feel proud of.
Having an additional tool at the onboarding stage to help communicate this strategy and values is important to ensure their employees know how they can be successful, add value and develop themselves.
In partnership with The Big Picture People we helped Knights Brown create a bespoke Discovery Map® which allowed its new employees to understand the company’s vision and purpose in a visual, rich picture format.
It's an asset Knights Brown will be able to share with their new starters and also something they have subsequently added to their office wall space. Its an important asset to help embed the culture of the business from an early stage and to make new employees aware that they are the main focus at Knights Brown. It backs up the company vision which is: ‘To create a company people aspire to work for where we will always deliver the best experience for our customers.’
We worked with Knights Brown during our preparatory calls to understand their objectives. The understanding gained from these initial calls helped us plan and run a
one-day face-to-face, graphically facilitated workshop with the leadership team at Knights Brown. This developed an understanding of the company’s narrative.
After the workshop, Knights Brown provided feedback on the outputs which were integrated into revisions. Once finalised, a high-resolution digital version of their Discovery Map® was sent to the client for them to print and to use digitally where required.
Smaller embeddable elements from The Discovery Map® were also supplied to use in presentations and other communications materials.
